With “Sublime fleur”, Anaïs Jaya creates creations in preserved flowers that last over time and accompany her clients in all of life’s occasions. The use of preserved plants is the results of a journey that she tells us about in this interview.
SecondNatur : Hi Anaïs, can you tell us in a few words about your studies and your professional background until now?
Anaïs Jaya : My journey to flowers started very early. It was during an internship with a florist that I realized how attracted I was by this field. After obtaining a Bachelor degree in Music and Contemporary Dance in Montpellier, I quickly turned to flowers. So I validated my floristry diploma in Paris and my Professional certificate in Mauguio. Then I started working as an employee florist. From the beginning, my entrepreneurial spirit was present. Better implement it in the field that fascinates me!
SN : How did you discover stabilized flowers?
AJ : I have worked in several places and clients often asked for flowers that last over time. By remaining attentive to what was being done, I finally discovered the preserved flowers and plants. At the time, I was working for a florist, so I introduced her to it. I immediately saw that there was a real value-added to these products. From then on I saw that it was very developed in Japan. So I took flight tickets to Japan to see the products and get a real idea of the possibilities they offer. I brought back a lot of products to France and I started my store project.
SN : How did you get the motivation to start only with stabilized?
AJ : During my trip to Japan I was able to see and touch the products. I realized the quality of the product and the potential they could represent for my business project. That’s when I got the idea, it reinforced my idea to create my company and work only with stabilized plants.
SN : What do you like the most about stabilized?
AJ : I like many things about flowers and stabilized plants. First of all, there’s a wide colour palette available for each vegetal. Moreover, on this type of product, which lasts over time, there are no seasonal factors and therefore no availability throughout the year. Finally, what I like most is the resemblance to cut flowers. The authentic beauty of the flowers is preserved over time.
SN : What are your favourite flowers and stabilized plants?
AJ : I really like the delicacy of small hydrangeas. They allow a very fine work in the creations. Orchids are also among my favourites because of their poetic beauty and elegance. I am actually an admirer of all stabilized flowers other than roses. Often the knowledge of stabilized flowers stops at the rose, and I am interested to see that there are other flowers. Concerning foliage, my preference goes to eucalyptuses, which keep their original smell. I think they are beautiful aesthetically and integrate well into compositions.
SN : What is the main activity of your company Sublime Fleur today?
AJ : My activity today revolves mainly around weddings. I make bridal bouquets, ornaments, crowns but also jewellery such as bracelets. I also directed my activity towards the bouquet subscription and sale to professionals, but also to individuals.
SN : What advice would you give to those who wish to work with preserved plants?
AJ : I think the key element is that you have to be passionate about the product to get started. You have to believe in it and from there things follow one another and come naturally following your wishes. That’s the advice I would give, follow your wishes and live your passion.
SN : In your opinion, what future has stabilized in florists hands and more generally in the world of flowers?
AJ : I am convinced that stabilized flowers and plants have a great future. At the florist’s they will not replace fresh flowers, but they are complementary. The stabilized has been on the rise for about a year now, and I can clearly feel this trend. We are seeing more and more of them, we have started talking about them on television too… So I sense a very bright future for preserved plants.
