In Japan, hanami literally means « looking at flowers ». It is the traditional springtime custom of appreciating the beauty of flowers, mainly cherry blossoms, when they are in full bloom (from late March or early April).
The huge Nara Park, which covers more than 500 hectares, is one of the oldest in the country. This green oasis is home to more than 1,200 sika deer, considered sacred animals and now a national treasure, living in complete freedom.
The park established in 1880, with its natural folklore, is also the site of many UNESCO World Heritage sites. Temples can be found in every corner of the park.
Hidden wonders to be discovered like the Todai-ji temple with its huge Buddha statue, which is still the largest wooden structure in the world. Or the floating pavilion at Sagi-ike pond, a small traditional building above the water surrounded by lush nature, which encourages serenity.
