Discover Bhutan : negative carbon footprint

Bhutan, located between China and India, at the foot of the Himalayas, is one of the greenest countries in the world. It stands out for its culture in terms of ecology, architecture, and spirituality. Its landscape is very diverse, we can observe plains and subtropical forests in the south of the country and snow-capped mountains in the north.

About Bhutan…

Bhutan stands out from other Himalayan regions by its unique and original culture. It is the only country in the world to have a negative carbon footprint. Indeed, the country absorbs up to 3 times more CO2 than it produces. Its secret? Simply that 72% of its territory is covered by forests. During 2015, just under 50,000 trees were planted. In addition, almost all the country’s electricity comes from hydropower.

The country owes these merits to its King: Jigme Singye Wangchuck who chose to manage his country according to several pillars: sustainable development, environmental protection and preservation of traditional culture. This small Asian country does not intend to stop there, it aims to become a 100% organic country. It is also the only country not to develop the GDP but the BNP the gross national happiness index.
